About

I am a middle school English teacher who has been teaching since 1987.  I taught in private for two years, in NYC public schools for 6 years and currently in an urban/suburban school outside of the city.  I have additional certification in Social Studies, Art and Administration. Here are some things I’m passionate about.

I am passionate about my students and about my subject.  I am fully committed to project based learning, but strongly in favor of explicit teaching of skills.  I believe student interest is important but not the single most important factor in determining value of an assignment.  That being said, I endeavor to put my students in the driver’s seat, creating work that enlivens them, uses skills they have and builds skills they don’t know they’re building.  I hope to continue to balance between rigor and engagement, craft and creativity throughout the rest of my career.
